2027 provident and pension fund withdrawal tax calculator
Enter the amount you are considering withdrawing. This estimator applies the SARS 2027 retirement-fund lump-sum table and can include a combined value for previous relevant lump sums. It is an estimate, not a SARS tax directive.
This tool can estimate the tax and net cash amount for an ordinary provident-fund or pension-fund withdrawal. Your actual payout can differ because previous retirement-fund lump sums, fund rules, Two-Pot components and the SARS tax directive matter.
Do not use the qualifying retirement/severance option unless the benefit actually qualifies. SARS/fund documentation determines the final classification.
Estimated tax
Actual tax may differ because the legal classification, excess contributions, prior benefits and tax-directive information matter.
This estimate cannot confirm which retirement-fund components are accessible or what SARS will direct. Compare withdrawing with preserving your money and request a free retirement-fund review before deciding.
Cash out vs preserve illustration
Illustrate what the full current fund value could grow to if it remained invested until retirement. This is mathematics, not an investment forecast.
Estimated cash after ordinary withdrawal tax*
Illustrative future value if full fund remains invested
*Assumes an ordinary withdrawal and no previous relevant lump sums. **Uses the inflation assumption entered. No fees, tax on investment returns or changing returns are modelled.
How a provident fund withdrawal payout is estimated
A withdrawal decision has two separate questions: how much tax may apply now, and what giving up the invested retirement capital could mean over time.
Enter the amount you may withdraw
Use the current value you are considering taking in cash. The calculator estimates ordinary withdrawal tax under the 2027 table.
Include previous relevant lump sums
Retirement-fund lump-sum tax is cumulative. Previous relevant withdrawals or benefits can change the tax on a later withdrawal.
Compare withdrawal with preservation
Use the second calculator to illustrate what the full fund value could become if it remained invested to retirement. The return is an assumption, not a forecast.
There is no single payout period that applies to every fund. Payment can only proceed once the relevant exit process and documents are complete and, where required, the SARS tax directive has been obtained. Delays can arise from incomplete employer exit information, outstanding fund documents or tax matters. For the process rather than a guess at a fixed number of days, see our payout timing guide.
How long does a provident fund payout take after resignation?
Use it for searches such as provident fund withdrawal calculator, provident fund tax calculator, pension fund withdrawal tax calculator and resignation payout calculator. It estimates the tax and net cash result for an ordinary pre-retirement withdrawal; it does not replace the SARS tax directive.
Provident and pension fund calculator FAQs
Is this a provident fund payout calculator?
Yes. For an ordinary pre-retirement cash withdrawal, it estimates the tax and net cash payout using the current withdrawal table. It can also be used for a pension-fund withdrawal where that table applies.
Does the calculator include Two-Pot savings withdrawals?
No. A Two-Pot savings-component withdrawal is taxed at the member’s marginal income-tax rate and should not be calculated using the ordinary retirement-fund withdrawal table.
Why can my actual provident fund payout differ?
Your fund rules, the legal type of benefit, previous relevant lump sums, Two-Pot component balances, excess contributions and the SARS tax directive can all affect the final amount.
Should I withdraw or preserve my provident fund when I resign?
Tax is only one part of the decision. Compare your immediate cash need with the long-term effect of removing retirement capital. Read our provident fund after resignation guide and preserve vs withdraw guide before deciding.
Want the calculation checked against your actual fund situation?
A calculator cannot know your exact fund rules, component split, previous lump sums or personal tax position.
